Christian Wolter Blühende Landschaften

Christian Wolter in his Blühende Landschaften* embraces the failing of several industrial and construction projects which due to misplanning were stopped at some point before their commissioning. These constructs as photographed by Wolter just stand there as new ruins, still and useless, often surrounded by a ruderal vegetation that is reclaiming the land once developed. There is a political dimension to this series in addition to its aesthetic qualities as each photograph tells an almost unbelievable story of defeat. Wolter (*1968) studied photography under Peter Bialobrzeski, Wolfgang Zurborn and Boris Becker. His works have been shown in various exhibitions and at international festivals. * Literally "blossoming landscapes"; a reference to a metaphoric speech delivered by former Chancellor Helmut Kohl during the German reunion in 1990, in which he wrongly predicted swift economic success and prosperity for the East German states. Today the term is often used ironically to refer to broken promises.
