Sandro Chia Frühe Arbeiten auf Papier

Cuno Amiet (1869–1961) is one of the most famous Swiss painters of the 20th century. Most recently, in 1999 and 2000, two major retrospectives were shown in the art museums of Bern and Geneva. But it was long forgotten that Amiet also left an extensive accumulation of drawings. The Solothurn Art Museum has now provided this long overdue presentation of Amiet's drawing oeuvre. The focus is on the years from 1886 to 1918. In this period, Amiet used drawing techniques to create works that impressively reveal the development of his style: from an elegant, closed use of line, through a pointillist manner of painting, to a dynamic gesture influenced by van Gogh. This publication appears on the occasion of the exhibition of the same name in Solothurn Art Museum from August 20 to November 6, 2005.
