In 1962 the Frankfurter Kunstverein, founded in 1829, moved into the Steinernes Haus next to the Römerberg. Since then, some 400 exhibitions and numerous events have taken place there. On the occasion of the institution's 50th anniversary at this location, high-profile guests were invited to take part in an extensive program of events reviewing the development of the Frankfurter Kunstverein. Photographs, posters, catalogs and a wealth of material from the Kunstverein's archives traced milestones in its history, along with the many artistic trends it brought to the attention of a wider public. In parallel, the solo exhibition To the People of the City, mounted by Wiebke Grösch and Frank Metzger, opened up a completely different perspective on the history of earlier exhibitions. In their installations, the Frankfurt artist duo combine seminal works by artists such as Charlotte Posenenske, Isa Genzken and Blinky Palermo with their own conceptual art. The catalog documents, among other things, the speeches made by all of the association's former directors, as well as excerpts from various panel discussions. The result is a kaleidoscope in text and images of the institution's history and the art currents it has fostered over the years.
