Martin Parr The Last Resort

Martin Parr's classic book The Last Resort was first published in 1986 and is now available in this new edition with an introduction by Gerry Badger. The photo series about the decaying holiday resort of New Brighton remains hugely controversial. Described by some as cruel and voyeuristic, and by others as a stunning satire on the state of Britain, it established Parr as one of the world's most influential and admired photographers and revolutionised documentary photography in Britain. Martin Parr (b. 1952) is a member of the prestigious MAGNUM photo agency. Internationally recognised as a brilliant satirist of contemporary life he has shown his work and his collections of photographs in numerous publications and exhibitions. His work is in major galleries and museums worldwide. Gerry Badger, leading writer on photography, curator and photographer, reexamines The Last Resort and its impact on British Photography. He was co-author, with Martin Parr, of the two volumes The Photobook: A History.
